Lui Kawasumi

Engineer

Lui comes to Ocean Discovery League with a varied background in design and technology. He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and is now pursuing a master's in mechanical engineering at Boston University. Along the way, he's picked up embedded software skills, learned circuit design, and put together a full-fledged development bench to design, build, and test whatever custom boards or mechanisms are needed to solve the problem at hand. He strives to use his background in design to develop engineered solutions that may be running complex processes under the hood but are as intuitive as possible to use. Lui is also an excited newcomer to oceanography. He's had the luck and pleasure of working with Open Ocean Institute, the Ocean Discovery League, Oceanic-Labs, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and has gone on two research cruises in the Pacific, where he was very seasick and terribly ecstatic.
